Northeast Center for Tradeswomen Equity is a program of building pathways that focuses specifically on outreach and recruitment to potential new tradeswomen through the Build a Life MA campaign. Look through their website for excellent videos highlighting women in each of the building trades and for recordings of our monthly outreach events Tradeswomen Wednesdays
Community Works is the pre-apprenticeshp program local to Western Massachussetts which holds an annual program offering 10 weeks of free classes introducing people to the building trades and offering basic training, exposure to different trades, beginning certifcations, and networking. Community Works is a close ally of Western Mass Tradeswomen, as they focus specifically on bringing women and people of color into the field.
Policy Group on Tradeswomen's Issues is the policy arm of the tradeswomen movement. This website has a wealth of resources for tradeswomen, union staff and apprenticeship directors, contractors, public officials and more about winning strategies for recruiting and keeping women in the field and keeping us employed.
NABTU Tradeswomen Build Nations Conference is an annual conference where over 5,000 tradeswomen gather for a weekend of sisterhood and movement building. Massachusetts Girls in Trades works to connect young women in middle and high school as well as recent graduates with careers in the building trades. They host an annual event that WMTW takes part in.
Pregnancy, maternity leave, breastmilk pumping, and childcare are issues that affect many tradeswomen. Below are a number of links that have useful information. We have a compiled list of maternity and pregnancy leave benefits policies in different building trades unions throughout the US as well as a draft summary of Paid Family Medical Leave procedures for Massachusetts Tradeswomen.
